iOS 27.2 fixes the Direct Touch setting, but VoiceOver may fall silent

In short
iOS and iPadOS 27.2 restore the Direct Touch control in VoiceOver Quick Settings. Announcements of changing information are also better, but VoiceOver may now fall silent for 20 to 30 seconds.
Apple released the update on 26 October. AppleVis tested its accessibility behavior and reports that the Direct Touch control in Quick Settings works again. Direct Touch allows an app to receive taps and swipes directly, and several games use it for their own VoiceOver touch controls.
The testing also found that VoiceOver is much more likely to announce when information or an element’s state changes. This may provide clearer feedback in games and other apps that update the same control during use, although AppleVis still encounters occasional missed updates. The release also moves VoiceOver audio back toward the profile used before iOS 27.0.
One new bug works against those improvements: VoiceOver may occasionally stop speaking for about 20 to 30 seconds while sound feedback and haptics continue. AppleVis also found that some emoji and pictorial icons are announced as “unspeakable English text.” These are operating-system tests, not confirmation that every game works better after updating.
iOS and iPadOS 27.2 are available through Settings, General, and Software Update. Apple lists 27.2 as the current release and has also issued iOS 26.7.2 for devices that remain on iOS 26.
